Bedtime stories with Olive the owl
For parents
Safety and privacy in plain words. The short version: your child's stories stay on your device, there are no adverts, and a grown-up is always in charge.
In plain words
Bedtime Kingdom is a bedtime story app for children aged 3 to 8. Olive the owl tells a story, your child's own hero acts it out on screen, and your child decides what happens next by tapping a picture or speaking. It ends with a tuck-in and a lullaby.
This page says what the app does with your family's information, without the legal language. The full privacy policy is a draft and is being reviewed before launch. If anything here is unclear, ask us at privacy@bedtimekingdom.com.
What stays on your device
- Every story, your child's hero and the outfits they've earned.
- The friends, pets and toys your child brings into stories, and anything you add about them.
- The memories that let the kingdom say "remember the dragon from last week?".
All of this is saved on your phone or iPad. We don't keep copies on our servers. You can read any story, and delete one or all of them, in the Parents area.
What leaves your device
To tell the next part of a story, the app sends the recent turns of the current story and a short memory summary to our server, which writes the next part and sends it straight back. It is handled and not stored. Before it goes, the app removes anything that looks like an address, a phone number, an email address or a surname.
Your child's voice
Speech is recognised on your device, by your iPhone or iPad. We never send a recording of your child's voice anywhere.
No adverts and no trackers
There are no adverts, nothing to buy inside a story and no links out of the app. There is no advertising or analytics software from other companies inside the app, no profiling and no ad targeting.
What we count
We count anonymous things so we can make the app better: how often it's opened, how many stories are started and finished, and whether choices were tapped or spoken. At the end of a story we also note a few words from a fixed list, such as "castle" or "dragon", so we know which worlds to build next. These counts carry no names and never the words of a story.
Grown-ups are in charge
The Parents area sits behind a grown-up gate. From there you set how many stories a night, choose what the stories help with, read the story log, and delete everything if you wish. Anything you send us, such as feedback on a story, is sent because you chose to send it, and we tell you what's in it first.
Before launch
We're having this design reviewed by a specialist in children's privacy before the app is released, and we're looking at children's-privacy certification. We'll say here what that review changed.
