Bedtime stories with Olive the owl
Privacy policy
Draft: under review before launch.
Draft: under review before launch. This policy describes how Bedtime Kingdom is designed to work. It is being reviewed with a specialist in children's privacy and will be finalised before the app is released. Last updated 7 October 2026.
Who we are
Bedtime Kingdom is a bedtime story app for children aged 3 to 8, made in the United Kingdom. For anything to do with your information, write to privacy@bedtimekingdom.com.
What this policy covers
This policy covers the Bedtime Kingdom app for iPhone and iPad and this website. It explains what information stays on your device, what is sent to us, what we keep, and the choices you have.
Information that stays on your device
The app saves the following on your iPhone or iPad only:
- Your child's first name and age, which you enter in the Parents area.
- Your child's hero: their look, outfits and rewards.
- Every story, including your child's answers as text, and a short memory summary written at the end of each story.
- Friends, pets and toys your child brings into stories, and any details you add about them.
- Your settings, such as stories per night and the story focus.
We do not have access to this information. You can read it and delete it in the Parents area. Deleting the app deletes it.
Information sent to our servers
Story turns. To write the next part of a story, the app sends our server the recent turns of the current story and the short memory summary. Our server processes this, returns the next part, and does not store it. Before sending, the app removes anything that looks like an address, phone number, email address or surname. Your child's words are treated as story ideas only.
Your child's voice. Speech is recognised on your device. We never receive audio of your child.
Anonymous usage counts. The app sends us anonymous events so we can improve it: for example that a story was started or finished, which step of setup was reached, and whether a choice was tapped or spoken. Events from the child's part of the app carry no identifier at all. Events from the Parents area carry a random install identifier that is not linked to a name, email address, device identifier or location. We use these only to run and improve the app.
Story themes. At the end of a story, our server notes a few words from a fixed list (for example "castle", "dragon", "friendship") and sends them as an anonymous event. Never names, never the text of a story.
Feedback you send. If you send feedback from the Parents area, we receive what you wrote, with your child's name replaced by [child] and any email addresses or phone numbers removed. If you choose to include a story and what your child said, we receive that text too, because you asked us to look at it. We keep feedback only as long as needed to deal with it, and for no more than 12 months.
Children's privacy
The app is made for children, and it is designed so that we do not collect personal information from them. There are no adverts, no in-app purchases inside a story, no links out, and no advertising or analytics software from other companies in the app. We do not build profiles of children and we do not use children's stories to train anything.
What we never do
- Store your child's stories or conversations on our servers.
- Send audio of your child's voice anywhere.
- Show adverts, or share information with advertisers.
- Sell or rent personal information.
How long we keep things
Story turns are processed and not stored. Anonymous usage events are deleted after 13 months. Feedback is deleted once dealt with, and within 12 months. Everything else lives on your device, under your control.
Purchases
Subscriptions and purchases are handled by Apple through the App Store. We do not see your payment details. Apple's privacy policy applies to those transactions.
Your choices and rights
You can see and delete your child's stories and details in the Parents area at any time. For any request about information we hold, including a copy of it or its deletion, write to privacy@bedtimekingdom.com. If you are in the UK or the EU you also have the right to complain to your data protection authority.
This website
This website does not use advertising or tracking cookies. If you choose a light or dark theme, that choice is saved in a cookie on your device.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will say so in the app and on this page, with the date of the change at the top.
